Reflections from Your Outgoing President

When I joined the board in January 2020, I had no idea what would be in store for our world, our Association, our chapter, or for me personally. After two years of navigating our chapter through a pandemic with some of the most kindred spirits I have ever met in a professional setting, I was drawn to step into the role of chapter president in 2022.

During these past three years, the chapter has continued to blossom, building on the foundation laid before my tenure as president. From January 2022 to December 2024, we grew our membership by 60% (52 to 83 members). New leaders emerged on all three committees and the board. Chapter leaders prioritized access and equity with growing vigor. We returned to in-person activities while retaining the best that virtual meetings gave us. The board is vibrant and the chapter is financially and operationally sustainable.

Wow! Look what we accomplished as a team.

As I wrap up my three-year term, I can say that this experience pushed me to thrive just as much as our chapter has thrived. I made treasured friendships and professional connections. I took a major career step with the support of chapter members. I gained experience delegating. I earned my GPC, again, with the tangible support of chapter members. Each one of these victories ties back in some way to service within GPA. I hope that if you have never considered serving, my experience encourages you to raise your hand. You never know where it will take you.

I will remain on the board as a board member-at-large in 2025 to help with the transition to the next cohort of leaders. And I'll absolutely be around at meetings, conferences, and events for a long time to come. I sincerely hope to see you all there.

What a privilege it has been to walk this road with you,

Shauna O'Toole
